GET TOGETHER- HE CAN COUNT IN THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN COUNTED OUT

GET TOGETHER- HE CAN COUNT IN THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN COUNTED OUT

John 4:15-18. “The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ “for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

One of the biggest lies of the devil is to try to convince people that our sinful past and perhaps the sin that someone may be living in is too bad to be forgiven from. Or that we are to messed up to be delivered out of it.  The woman that Jesus met at Jacob’s well in Samaria had a messed up past and was living in a messed up present.

She was living in so much shame that she only went to the well at Midday to draw water. The “respectable women” in the community would have gone earlier in the day when it was cooler to get their water for their daily needs in their households.

But Jesus comes to us where we are. This woman had no idea that she was going to meet the Incarnate Son of God that day.    Perhaps some people in her community had been praying for her rather than shaming her. Perhaps she had cried out at night as she lay next to the man who was not her husband and was wondering if there was a way for her to ever be in a right relationship with God.   We don’t know. But we do know that this appointment that day was no coincidence.

Perhaps you have had some appointments recently that were not a coincidence.  I can look back at some that I had before I came to the Lord.   One night some Christians living in our community visited me. I was sitting alone doing drugs when they came by. Another time it was a scorekeeper on a softball team that we played against who just seemed to have something different about him. There was the Preacher who married J.J. and I that became a Christian while he was incarcerated.  And looking back there have and are still so many others Perhaps just reading this is a divine appointment for you today.

This woman had been married five times. The guy that she was living with was not her husband.  She was counted out by the culture, the religious, and her community. And who knows but what the old boy that she was with might have been ready to count her out as well.

At this well on this day she meets Jesus! He is getting ready to count her in.  He tells her about the living water that He gives. That day her life is changed. She begins to go and tell others about her encounter with Jesus: Joh 4:29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

How about you today? Are you like she was trying to quench that thirst in unholy relationships? Are you perhaps trying to quench that thirst with something besides the living water that He gives? Perhaps you feel like you have done too much or are currently in a sinful situation, or lifestyle that you cannot get out of. He is there at the well today. He is there waiting for you. He is ready for you to come and drink deeply.

On the other hand, you may be the person that the Lord wants to represent Him at the well today. It could be a neighbor, co-worker, classmate, team mate, or friend that He wants you to offer that living water to.  If that is you know that He will do the work for you.  You just need to show up at the well.

Let us Pray

Lord we thank you that You count us in when the world, the religious, and others may count us out. Lord may those who need to meet you at the well be lead by the Holy Spirit to that appointment. For those of us who need to offer the water please set up the appointments for us as well. For Your glory and Your honor

In Jesus Name

Amen

Thanks to all of you who tell me that these writings encourage you. You encourage me in the Lord.

GET TOGETHER- Everything Means Everything

GET TOGETHER-     Everything Means Everything

 Php 4:6,7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

At one point in my life I was a big time worrier. Until 1990 I bit finger nails all through childhood, adolescence, high school, and way into adult hood. When I met Jesus Christ in 1990 and gave my life to Him this verse became very foundational in my life. I also stopped biting my finger nails. He had removed worry from my life.

One thing that I have noticed in my journey with the Lord is that there are always new and greater challenges as we progress in our relationships with Him. When this happens I believe that we are being challenged to trust God on a deeper level. We can either decide to move forward with God, or perhaps pick back up some of our old, habits, coping mechanisms, or other behaviors where we try to put ourselves on the throne rather than trusting God.The good news about these two verses is the man that wrote it was a powerful man of God. The Holy Spirit had him write this verse to help all of us no matter where that we might be in our journey with the Lord.

In this passage we are told not to worry about anything. This is consistent with what Jesus preached and taught. Seven times in the Gospels He is telling us not to worry.  He also promises peace to those who do this. Joh 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  The Greek term here for peace is eirene,  i-ray’-nay. It means a state of freedom from worry and inner turmoil.

Paul gives us good advice on how to experience this peace. He says that with thanksgiving that we can talk to God about everything.    The Greek term for prayer is pros-yoo-khay’. It means to speak or make requests to God.

Today you may be being tempted. Take that to God in prayer. You also may be going through a time of adjustment in some way in your life. Take that to God in prayer.  Theer is no situation or circumstance that we cannot talk to God about.  There is nothing that can take the place of that! Can I be honest with you? In the days before I met Christ I tried valium, painkillers, marijuana and all kinds of other harmful ways to give me peace. But the best prescription that I have found was written by and paid for by Dr. Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7 is one of the best ones that He has ever given to me. I believed that it worked early in my journey. I believe that it will still work at this phase of the journey.  Try it in your journey with the Lord. If you already are then don’t let up!

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus we thank You that You paid the price for our peace. We thank you today for the Holy Spirit that quickens Your word. We thank You that You are willing to act upon every supplication that we bring before you. We praise You that you grant us peace.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Don’t let the  little foxes rob you in your relationship with the Lord and with others. Love you all.

GET TOGETHER- VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE CHAINS

GET TOGETHER-  VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE CHAINS

Ac 16:25 ,26 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

One of the most powerful times for me this past weekend as we worked the Kairos # 12 at Hamilton A& I Correctional Facility happened either Friday afternoon or Saturday afternoon. To be honest I can’t remember specifically which day that it was. We were singing “There Is Power In The Name of Jesus.”  Actually the name of the song is “Break Every Chain“.    If you aren’t familiar with song here are a few of the words:

There is power in the name of Jesus
There is power in the name of Jesus
There is power in the name of Jesus

To break every chain
Break every chain
Break every chain

It isn’t hard to think about chains when you are in a prison ministering.  You see lots of mechanisms that are there to keep people bound. And there is a reason for that.  I saw concertina wire to keep people from climbing over the fence.  You have to wait for an officer to open the gate to move from one place to another. There are strong fences around the institution. And as I said before there is a reason for that.  These are all visible chains or means of confinement.

On the other hand, we can all be imprisoned by some invisible means of confinement and this is not a good thing.  As the men sang we saw some of these invisible means of confinement come off. Some were hatred, racism, unforgiveness, bitterness, hopelessness, negative and give up attitudes, condemnation also false guilt, shame and the list could go on.  It was a powerful thing to see these invisible chains come off. Wait a minute! I just said that we saw something invisible come off. Well we did! We saw countenances begin to change. Tones of some of the resident’s voices began to change. And most of all hearts began to change. There is power in the name of Jesus!

How about us here in the free world? What kind of invisible chains have us bound? Is it unforgiveness, pride, addiction, greed, envy, egotism or sexual sin?   The chain that may have some of us the most bound and could even be the most restricting is that you are a good moral person and that there is no need to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  That one may even make a person feel falsely that they are free when they are not.  John Wesley called that a false peace.   In closing I am going to put some more words to the song Break Every Chain. My prayer is that just like the prisoners in the jail at Philippi had their chains loosed that whatever may have you bound will be loosed as well. And that you will know the true freedom that comes only by faith in Jesus Christ. The Philippian Jailer ask Paul and Silas a question. Ac 16:30 “And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”   They answered him Ac 16:31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”. Saved from Hell, saved from the power of Hell, healed from the damage of hell.

There is power in the name of Jesus
There is power in the name of Jesus
There is power in the name of Jesus

To Break every chain
Break every chain
Break every chain

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus today break every chain that is binding us. Break off unbelief, faultfinding, accuser of the brethren, man pleasing and everything that every person reading this needs broken off.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Love you all!

GET TOGETHER – HE IS COMMITTED

July 20,2016

1Co 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Some of you may keep up with college football recruiting or recruiting in some other sport. To be honest I don’t spend a whole lot of my time keeping up with recruiting in college athletics. I really don’t have the time for it. I must admit that I do pray quiet often for our son who is a college basketball coach and recruiting is one of his primary responsibilities as he travels and spends so much time on the road.

There is a term that sometimes you see in college athletics. That term is “decommit”. It means the prospective athlete is no longer going to honor his or her verbal commitment to the school which they previously said that they would attend.
I always was taught that there is really no such term as decommit. If I am on top of a building and jump off I have committed. I can’t go back. I am headed to the ground. If I tell people that I am going to jump off the building I really haven’t committed. Webster defines the word commit this way: to say that (someone or something) will definitely do something: to make (someone or something) obligated to do something. Another definition of this term is to carry into action deliberately.

We live in a culture that has seemed to have lost its appreciation for commitment. I remember one time I was preaching at a church somewhere at a revival. There were some people that were at the service and they told me they were there because the fire had left their previous congregation and it appeared to be at that church at the present time. They also shared with me that when the fire left there that they would be leaving there as well. I thought about what they said. Sometimes when there is a death in your congregation it may not feel like the fire is burning, but it is burning. When someone in the congregation has a child pass away it may not seem like the fire is burning, but it is burning.
No, I am not poor mouthing. We have had some good things going on here at CCF recently. On the other hand it is because some people were committed to praying and, serving, and hung in there in the challenging seasons that those things are beginning to manifest. These people are committed people.
Isn’t it awesome that God doesn’t “decommit.” We are reminded throughout the Scriptures of how faithful that God is. You may be going through a challenging time. The enemy may be trying to get you to “decommit. He may be even trying to get you to believe that God has “decommited to you.” I just want to share with you a few Scriptures that talk about the faithfulness of God. Begin to meditate on them and declare them over you and your situation.
1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

1Th 5:24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
2Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.

2Ti 2:13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
Heb 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people
Re 19:11 ¶ Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
Php 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus
Stay committed to Him, because He will never” decommit” from what He has promised to you.
