GET TOGETHER- HE CAN COUNT IN THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN COUNTED OUT

John 4:15-18. “The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ “for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

One of the biggest lies of the devil is to try to convince people that our sinful past and perhaps the sin that someone may be living in is too bad to be forgiven from. Or that we are to messed up to be delivered out of it.  The woman that Jesus met at Jacob’s well in Samaria had a messed up past and was living in a messed up present.

She was living in so much shame that she only went to the well at Midday to draw water. The “respectable women” in the community would have gone earlier in the day when it was cooler to get their water for their daily needs in their households.

But Jesus comes to us where we are. This woman had no idea that she was going to meet the Incarnate Son of God that day.    Perhaps some people in her community had been praying for her rather than shaming her. Perhaps she had cried out at night as she lay next to the man who was not her husband and was wondering if there was a way for her to ever be in a right relationship with God.   We don’t know. But we do know that this appointment that day was no coincidence.

Perhaps you have had some appointments recently that were not a coincidence.  I can look back at some that I had before I came to the Lord.   One night some Christians living in our community visited me. I was sitting alone doing drugs when they came by. Another time it was a scorekeeper on a softball team that we played against who just seemed to have something different about him. There was the Preacher who married J.J. and I that became a Christian while he was incarcerated.  And looking back there have and are still so many others Perhaps just reading this is a divine appointment for you today.

This woman had been married five times. The guy that she was living with was not her husband.  She was counted out by the culture, the religious, and her community. And who knows but what the old boy that she was with might have been ready to count her out as well.

At this well on this day she meets Jesus! He is getting ready to count her in.  He tells her about the living water that He gives. That day her life is changed. She begins to go and tell others about her encounter with Jesus: Joh 4:29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

How about you today? Are you like she was trying to quench that thirst in unholy relationships? Are you perhaps trying to quench that thirst with something besides the living water that He gives? Perhaps you feel like you have done too much or are currently in a sinful situation, or lifestyle that you cannot get out of. He is there at the well today. He is there waiting for you. He is ready for you to come and drink deeply.

On the other hand, you may be the person that the Lord wants to represent Him at the well today. It could be a neighbor, co-worker, classmate, team mate, or friend that He wants you to offer that living water to.  If that is you know that He will do the work for you.  You just need to show up at the well.

Let us Pray

Lord we thank you that You count us in when the world, the religious, and others may count us out. Lord may those who need to meet you at the well be lead by the Holy Spirit to that appointment. For those of us who need to offer the water please set up the appointments for us as well. For Your glory and Your honor

In Jesus Name

Amen

Thanks to all of you who tell me that these writings encourage you. You encourage me in the Lord.

Your Friend/Kinfolk
